J. Richard Gruber's latest monograph on William Cristenberry, from University of New Orleans Press, explores the artist's work and how it relates to the cultural production of previous generations of Christenberrys. The book adds to the body of art historical texts, concerning itself not only with tart and familyhe work of William Christenberry but also with art from the American South and Southern American culture. Specializing in the art of the American South, Mr. Gruber examines William Christenberry and his familial relationships in the context of the culture in which they were bred, as well as the context of Christenberry's place in contemporary American art. This book is a wonderful addition not only to American art history curricula, but any course examining the development of the American South as it is today.

J. Richard Gruber is currently the Director of the University of New Orleans Roger H. Ogden Museum of Southern Art. An established art historian his other works include monographs and catalogues devoted to Benny Andrews, George Andrews, Robert Rauschenberg, Nellie Mae Rowe, Thomas Hart Benton, Robert Stackhouse, Wolf Kahn and two previous works on William Christenberry. Mr. Gruber is also a recognized teacher and curator.
